September 2016
We received an amazing book from a new PALS, Steve Arscott. He was diagnosed in 2013 with severe bulbar ALS and told he had three weeks to live. His research is amazing. He found a naturopath an hour and a half from his home in Ontario, Canada that used a special device called REBA that measures subtle levels of our physiology through brain wave frequency. He details the 30 different times he went for testing and what they found each time. With each new find, they would use homeopathy treatments to help resolve the issues found. This is found in chapter 8 of his book.
He has many, many online links in his book to where his studies led him. He has an amazing chart at the very last page of the book that details so clearly where ALS can come from. Not every PALS may have everything on the chart, but I am guessing that each have many of them. It may take a larger event to progress to ALS, or it may just take the accumulation of so many. Here is the link to his book. He seems to have covered everything.

Another book we learned about this month is called Radical Remission by Kelly Turner, PhD. It is research on how some cancer patients have faced cancer and gotten past it and remained in remission for many, many years with no return of cancer. She found it shocking that doctors had no interest in finding out why their patients went into permanent remission, so she studied it because she felt it was something very important that was being ignored. She traveled the world and studied hundreds of cases and the natural practitioners that helped them heal. Though she found about 75 different factors, there were 9 key factors that seemed to show up almost every time. She has a chapter on each, with personal stories included. They are:
Radically changing your diet
Taking control of your health
Following your intuition
Using herbs and supplements
Releasing suppressed emotions
Increasing positive emotions
Embracing social support
Deepening your spiritual connection
Having strong reasons for living.
Now why would I suggest you read a book on cancer? Because all the same principles apply to ALS as apply to cancer. PALS get the same line from the doctor as cancer patients do, go home and die, you have x amount of time left. However, with cancer they can do lots and lots of treatments, often times nearly destroying you or even killing you in the process. The old standby of cut, poison, and burn does save many, but too often the old adage of “the cure is worse than the disease” applies. But at least it is something. Some radical remission subjects in the book used a combination of standard cancer treatment and the things listed above. Though Dr. Turner says in the book that she is not opposed to, and in fact even supports the standard treatments for cancer, she points out that there may be much more to healing.
Healing from ALS is not an easy chore. It takes a lot of work, a lot of research and requires significant changes in your lifestyle, physically, mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually. But healing really is possible. (Kim really did play four rounds of golf last week!)
Our prayer is that you can find the answers you need to heal.
