Miscellanous -  this page is for stories, and other information that is good stuff to know.  It might not all relate directly to ALS, but maybe to general health or even having a positive mental attitude.  The first is an article from Dr. Mercola about glutathione.

Glutathione – the master andioxident

Magnesium Rub

(This is not to eat, but to rub on the skin.  It could be rubbed into all the muscle groups that are experiencing difficulty.  I used it on Kim's back, neck, and legs after 2 days of golf and he slept better than he had in months.  He says it especially feels good on his ankles that are still not working as well as they should.)

1/2 cup Magnesium Oil
1/2 cup Coconut Oil
1/2 cup Shea butter
2 T. beeswax

4-6 drops of essential oil (optional)

Melt shea butter and beeswax to just warm and then add the softened coconut oil. (Coconut oil is a liquid at 76 degrees and a solid below that temperature.  I just put my jar of coconut oil in a sink or bowl of very warm water to heat it up to a liquid.)

In tall narrow container, put the warmed shea butter and beeswax and a few drops of frankincense essential oil (optional) or other preferred essential oil and blend with a stick blender by adding the magnesium oil a little at a time until you have an emulsion (like lotion.) It could be done with a regular blender, but I bought a stick blender at Walmart for $10 and it works really well.  The end comes off so it can just go in the dishwasher.  A regular blender would work, but cleanup is much more difficult and getting the lotion out of the blender is also a challenge.

All of the ingredients can be found on www.swansonvitamins.com.  The beeswax should be in bead or pellet form.  The most recent Shea Butter I ordered from them was one that came from East Africa. It was better than the first one I got from them.   It will save money to order the ingredients from Swanson's.  I spent $19 for the beeswax at a health food store and you can get about the same thing from Swanson's for $10.

Dr. Mercola says that you cannot make glutathione without magnesium.  Here is his recent article on the importance of magnesium.

Coconut oil and ALS.  Following is a story about a PALS who used coconut oil to his benefit.  He talks about how he increased the coconut oil each month.  I read somewhere else that if you are not used to coconut oil it can give you a little digestive upset.  I  have also read that coconut oil rubbed into the affected muscles or limbs is helpful.

The next article is how coconut oil is of benefit in many areas.

We had a PALS from Europe send us an article on ALS written by an Austrian doctor following his research on ALS.  It was translated from German, so some of it is not completely understandable, but is still of value.
